the Italian chef + glamourous cakemaker

Giada di Laurentiis,
 Celebrity Chef Extraordinaire

in Capri

Giada Pamela De Laurentiis was born in Rome, Italy
in August, 1970,  she will turn 40 this year.
She is the eldest child of actress Veronica De Laurentiis and her first husband,
actor-producer Alex De Benedetti.  Her grandparents are Italian film producer
Dino di Laurentiis & his wife, the legendary actress Silvana Mangano.
Giada's father was a close associate of Giada's grandfather,
the film producer Dino De Laurentiis.

After her parents divorced the her mother moved the family to
Los Angeles, where she was raised.

Town & Country Magazine & Food & Wine Magazine
did articles on the di Laurentiis family, including Giada, after seeing them
a film producer thought it would be a good idea to have Giada try out
for a TV show.  The rest is history.

following are some really wonderful photos of Giada in Capri & on the
mainland of Italy...

of course, you already knew all this...
but what I'll bet you don't know is that...

major photoshopping going on with her hand on the
cover of her book...see how large her fingers are
compared to her arm? & her little finger?

All to cover Giada's cleavage?  Yes.  Hilarious?  Yes.

& another thing you probably didn't know...
to compete with Rachel Ray, who has a major dog food division,
Giada's people think she should have a dog food too.
Provisional label...

She does photograph well and has a winning smile for sure. Love all the outfits expect that blue and brown mismatch outfit, a fashion faux pas. Even the jeans and white top is more fashionable well okay not really but it does have that classical appeal to the down home gal look to go with all that cooking and farm produce.

    Have a good week end.

Giada is not well known over here at all, I have only heard of her via US friends....in fact I have heard of her grandfather more than her!

  9. Altho I do have her cookbooks and used to watch her on the food network tv, I got tired of her. I think she is great, but sometimes too over exposed...ha! No pun intended.
She should stay away from dogfood. Leave it alone and continue doing what you love.
Rachael's dog is their baby and that is why she broke into that side of the business. Giada doesn't have a dog to my knowlegde, so why go there. Happy Pink Saturday, Char

  12. I am probably going to get some hate mail from this one, but, Rachel Ray is the most annoying celebrity chef (or whatever they call her) that I know. At least G. is cute. I haven't really watched her show, though. I hope there is some real cooking talent, not just hype for having a famous family.

  13. I'm responding to Shiny Pebble via email & on the comments: Giada does have talent. She studied at the best and worked with the best before being "discovered." I don't think many people make the connection to her very famous grandfather & she doesn't discuss it on camera. Her personality is genuine (most people think it is not, but this is the real HER). Her husband is very successful, the chief designer at Anthropologie, & they have been together since 1989. A solid family woman. Anyone who thinks she is fake has never encountered a real Italian doing what they love to do. xx's

so funny about the photoshopping! I do notice that 'outstanding feature' of hers when she is on TV...!

  17. Ok...this has been an emotional roller-coaster ride of a post!
    So here goes...
Is this about promoting and appreciating the genuine talent and style of a delightful & quite humble woman who also happens to be a fabulous chef?
    Not sure.
We love Giada & her recipes & enjoy them often around here. I'm just sayin....

  20. Some people just seem to have it all and I'm glad that she found her niche :) She is gorgeous and the dog food was hilarious!!

  21. I like her recipes are great one you get past the silly remarks and unnecessary cleavage. I wince every time she has her aunt Raffy cook with her. Giada looks at the camera to say "isn't my aunt stupid?". Why have the aunt over, who has much more experience, too cook with her only to change everything that is classic from the family and then change it and argue. Silly little Giada.

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
