Bedroom Love

Master Bedroom

Pretty but needs some color somewhere. Something vibrant like a plant at least

the pinner thought it needed color,
I don't.  I love the serenity, the ease on the eyes with these soft colors, and
all monochromatic.

Mediterranean style Olive Mill Residence in California
to see this beautiful home in it's entirety please go HERE
it's in Montecito, California
& it is dreamy X10!

I was visiting one of my girlfriends at her home the other day and she took me back
to her bedroom to show me something.
I noticed she was opening her mail in her cozy chair, located next to a skirted
round table, her exercise bike was by the TV in the corner, and she had
piles of books on her bedside table.
I suddenly realized she "lived" in her bedroom, which is completely off-limits
to most visitors.
her home is a show place, always perfectly attended and ready for company.

for me, this wouldn't work.
I use my entire home, but when I finish something messy I put it up or out-of-sight,
fluff up the pillows, and the room is ready to use again.

I also realized that for me my bedroom needs to be serene,
uncluttered, a private refuge from all the world's commotion.
my closet is entirely separate from my bedroom and I make certain
all my clothes go in there even when I don't hang them up ( !! ).

so when I turn the bed back and settle down with whatever book or magazine
I'm reading, it's a completely relaxing time, the time before I finally fall asleep...
with Bono & FiFi both on the bed with me.
& no TV is in the room.  I've just never been a fan of bedroom TV viewing.
it's OK to  have one in the bathroom or dressing area so one can keep up with the news,
but not in the bedroom.

does any of this make sense?

going to dinner tonight with one of my recently divorced girlfriends.
she & her husband of 17 years were the perfect perfect couple...
except, it seems, they weren't.
and, total coincidence, one of my long-time guy friends, who tragically lost his wife 3 years
ago in an automobile accident,  had asked her
out for cocktails, so he'll be there too.

  1. These bedrooms are lovely to look at, but I confess that my bedroom is more like your friend's. Books, magazines, shoes (natch) and at times, work files. Also, ample doses of red. It wouldn't work for many. For me, it's comfortable...

  4. Hi Marsha! Thank you for visiting my blog and your kind warm words ... Life is magical when a new born baby enters our lives(:
And I completely follow your bedroom retreat, yes I also use the whole house as the rooms are each having it's purpose but I am too a neat person so yes despite the fact that we have a preschooler and a baby now ... We are always a photoshoot clean (yes cleaners help me!) as we simply keep the house tidy like you describe. Totally would hate clutter in my master bedroom but also my kids bedrooms ... ((: xo z

  5. I feel just like you. The bedroom is a temple. A place for quiet and love. No other activities.

  6. Gorgeous bedrooms Marsha. I would happily snuggle up in any of them. I SO agree with you about the limits of your bedroom. I too have refused to have a TV in the bedroom. At first my Husband was a bit unhappy about not having a TV, but now he loves having that one room to switch off in (that's not to say he doesn't bring his iPad in there ;-)
Like you Marsha, my bedroom is a place of escapism; escapism from the noise of the rest of the world.
    Have a lovely weekend x

  8. Marsha, I'm with you - I'm not the neatest person in the world and my husband would be the first to tell you that chaos seems to follow in my wake, but I like my bedroom to be as serene and restful as possible. I do the same thing - through my clothes in the closet which is divided from the sleep area, even if I don't hand them up every time.

Lovely collection of serene sleep spaces you found here! Hope you have a restful weekend. XOXO

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
