The Music Awards Shows, etc.

the IHeartRadio Awards was on last night,
paying tribute to the music the fans love to hear on the radio, of course.

it was long long long....and mostly unimportant...

except for the premier of Michael Jackson's new record,
featuring Usher dancing like MJ, which he did brilliantly.

the real news, for me, is the outfit Rihanna wore.

if I were 26 and a music icon I would have worn the same thing:

rihanna iheartradio music awards 2014 04

a Givenchy Couture by Riccardo Tisci dress and leather jacket,
 Manolo Blahnik shoes,
Neil Lane necklaces and earrings,
Nikos Koulis bracelets,
and rings by Loree RodkinLynn Ban, and Nikos Koulis.

seriously, guys, how much do you think this entire ensemble cost?

or did the designers "give" all this to her for the publicity?

a big wedding weekend for us here in Houston,
so there won't be much time for blogging...

the festivities are a bit out of town so lots of driving involved, but the people make it worthwhile,
the bride wanted a simple wedding, and both the actual afternoon wedding and reception
will be held at the church.

however, there are before and after events for family and close friends which we are honored to attend.

Sunday night back in town so we can attend the weekly El Patio dinner for
the same group who's been going for years.
If you're not there you could miss some serious gossip.

our front lawn is vastly different than it was 3 days ago, with a giant dumpster
filled with all the old holly hedges, tree branches, underbrush and tons of stuff
we don't need to have anyone see.

I am in shock at the starkness of everything at this stage,
but, with vision, I can see how beautiful it will be....eventually.
we all know how long it takes for new plantings to mature.

the employee who has been in residence for 30 years has not said one word about
what's going on, maybe he's glad he doesn't have to do it any longer.
I told him he got a promotion, but the seriousness is that the "Peter Principle" * has
been in effect for 29 of those years.

rambling a bit here...but I just remembered something very appropriate...something
my 1st husband said, and he was a very witty man...

"you say you have 30 years of experience,
but it appears you have 1 year's experience you've repeated 29 times."

The Peter Principle is a concept in management theory in which the selection of a candidate for a position is based on their performance in their current role rather than on their abilities relevant to the intended role. It is named after Laurence J. Peter who co-authored the humorous 1969 book The Peter Principle: Why Things Always Go Wrong with Raymond Hull. The authors suggest that people will tend to be promoted until they reach their "position of incompetence".

  4. I assume the designers and high-end merchants consider those outfits and accessories as part of doing business, and include them in their advertising budgets. If a dress costs, say, $5,000, they probably get many multiples of that in free publicity when it's worn by an A-lister to a media event. Rihanna's expression makes me think she was just daring the photogs to laugh.

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
