A Solution...

Image via Daily Dream Decor / Follow Daily Dream Decor

I love the arched framed opening from one room to the other...

but what I really looked at is this simple solution for bookcases
(which I sorely NEED)
& the art grouping above.

WHY didn't I think of this ???

what I've been envisioning was floor-to-ceiling bookshelves,
while wondering what I was going to do with all the artwork I have,
which now is sitting on the floor or in storage waiting for my
final decision on this.

So Simple, So Easy !!!

do you guys like it ???

  2. As both an art dealer and book collector....let me comment, that the art arrangement is perfect...and while I agree the lower book shelves are attractive, my ageing knees would hesitate to put any favourites too far down!
Love the plank floors and the arch...a very calming interior...Cheers

  3. Hi Marsha, I think the bookshelves look great. My only concern is easy access to the book titles and they get so dusty being so close to the floor, but that's just me and of the age where I avoid getting down on the floor...cause i can't get up! Too many years spent jogging, paying for it now. The artwork looks great however and the whole look works in my humble opinion.
    Best Lillian.

  4. I like it. In my library I have the floor to ceiling, but in the family room I did as they did above. I do not hang my art, because I like to rotate it every so often, so I just lean it against the wall.

  5. When I downsized my major dilemma was my artwork and my books, especially I went from dedicated rooms to open space. Floor to ceiling is lovely, and such a warm backdrop, but, as you say, what to do with the art. So, in some cases I used scattered wide shelving for my books, then staggered the artwork in and around. Then because the bottom of walls is usually dead space, I constructed the lower book cases in the photo above. Works beautifully! Good luck with your project.

  6. I love this arrangement - the color scheme is so calming and the book shelves and art add so much character to the room! The answer to accessing those books in the low shelves is to take one of those low stools and sit down while you peruse and make your selection. I have this set-up in our family room and it works well for me at 70 years. Marsha I love getting your blog as I sit at my desk in New Zealand - it is so great to share in your thoughts and ideas and realize the world is only a blog away!

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
