Wimberley Texas

the small creek running my daughter & son-in-law's back property,
the sound is heavenly....

they have just purchased & moved into the home and have had PROBLEMS X10,

buying an older home with lots of undisclosed defects....
but with time all of this can be repaired, and it's worth it.
they don't see this now, but they will.

it's a forever home on a huge piece of property and they bought it for an excellent price.

& it's in Texas - where we all are.

what do you think?  do you think re-do's are worth the anguish & expense?

they have a 3-year old son, Colt Harris, who makes it all much more difficult,
but I think it'll be worth it 2 years from now....

sending love to all...

  1. Extremely good decision. Having lived in an old home for over 34 years, I can tell you that you simply cannot duplicate the essence of "old house charm". This home will bring them a lifetime of wonderful memories. Enjoy it! Susan @ RomancingtheHome

  2. Beautiful, fresh water! I love living in an older home. For me the quality and charm is priceless. Add to that a beautiful piece of property, and it's even better. Hope this hope is safely above any flood possibility. Friends lost much in the floods in Wimberly in recent years, but they have rebuilt their lives and continue to love living in Wimberly. It's a wonderful community. Good luck to your son and his family.

  3. Fresh running water is a huge added bonus. It will be worth it, the renovations are always tough, especially with children, we've done it, more than once! and I always say never again, but we always do it again. It will pass quickly and then they will be so happy they took the time to do it.

  4. Marsha,
We lived in a beautiful home built in the 1920s for 20 years and raised three boys in it. I renovated and added on to it while the boys were very young. The boys loved the workmen and I got them tool belts to wear while the workmen were there (all the time). Now my husbnad and I live in a new home on a lot of land, but to my sons, the old house will always be home. By the way, we still seem to have a work men there a lot in the new house as well haha!

  5. to my experience it was worth and they are young and can repair it step by step
having an individuelly renovated property. I wish them luck, fun but a lot of
    strength as well.

  7. How very wonderful. Owning a home is so satisfying. There are always problems but that is part of the fun. Just don't talk to me about termites and dry rot. If they are going to do some fixing up there will need a large pot of extra money just in case.

I really love the moving water. How did you do that?

  8. I think so. We had the same problems when we first bought our old home and we love it now.

  9. We had a 1920's colonial ( and renovated /. replaced everything over the years - sold it when our daughter headed to college. Nothing like the good bones and workmanship of an older home. best of luck to them! wonderful time in their lives.

    1. Yvonne, it's out I10 West 2 hours, then North to San Marcos, then 17 miles above San Marcos in the beautiful Texas hill country. Close to Austin. It's beautiful. You would love it except in summer when it's hot as hell like all of Texas. I would rather be with you in Maine.
sending love and bunches of hugs to you & Renee

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
