it's Friday, I'm driving up to the hills to visit my daughter & her little family, just me & Bono, the rock-star Maltese, who is my ever-faithful companion all the time. he was SO mad at me for going to Santa Fe without him !!!
I’m sitting on the wrap-around porch of a pretty farm house sipping on a glass of spiked milk punch and eating honey-tinged biscuits. The sun is shining through a canopy of live oaks, jazz and small talk drift through the air, and peacocks are wandering the lawn.
It’s delightfully easy to forget where I am, and, for that fact, when I am.
That’s just the effect that Mattie’s at Green Pastures has. The idyllic restaurant has been plucked from another world — one with Southern belles and hand-painted china – and hidden away in the greenery of Austin. This home was originally built around 1890 and has just been through a year-long renovation to put it into service as a restaurant. The wonderful thing about this place is that you can just about "come as you are" for one of their plates. Totally unassuming, totally comfortable & charming, with awesome fare.
