I heartily agree with your sentiments thanking US soldiers, sailors, airmen/women and marines, but: 1-the beginning of the issues in Iran go far back to the overthrow of the democratically elected Mossadaigh regime in the 1950s, which the US was involved in. Additionally, the people of Iran, as opposed to the Mullahs or Ayatollah Khomeini, had legitimate grievances on the lack of civil rights and government torture and other misconduct. I personally consider it a tragedy what the religious dictatorship has done to the people and country of Iran, your statement that if Jimmy Carter had supported the Shah there would be no problems is simply not accurate. If I am misunderstanding you I apologize. We as a nation need to look at all our history to understand some of the causes of the current international situation. I believe that nothing excuses terrorism or the killing or targeting of innocents, and while I agree that the Iranian regime is involved in a significant amount of that behavior, simplifying history to believe that the Shah was all good does not help our understanding today. thanks Druhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03633330250084873715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-818215323812390398.post-9721060610862940412012-09-12T08:29:09.845-05:002012-09-12T08:29:09.845-05:00Dear Marsha, my husband and I were climbing the st...Dear Marsha, my husband and I were climbing the stairs in the department store Selfridges and as our heads came up enough to see over the balustrade we saw it relayed on all of the television screens in a circle around us in the Audio-visual Department. Over 20 screens...everywhere we turned. And my husband exclaimed, "Look at the Twin-Towers!" and my first thought was that it was a film, I replied, "Someone's making a movie." Then within a few moments the whole store emptied practically, literally everyone except a few staff were left, it was so eerie. The world changed that day, truly.
I hope you all felt that that world of people outside America reached out their arms to you, because We All Did!x

Hugs to you Marsha,
x Jane Half-heard in the Stillnesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01840301617199033576noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-818215323812390398.post-59206373313586325692012-09-12T01:09:24.260-05:002012-09-12T01:09:24.260-05:00Hi Marsha!

He was just walking in the door when the first plane hit and didn't know what was going on. So it's a bittersweet day for me we lost twenty close friends but I still have the man I love and for that I will always be thankful.

XX
Debra~Acquired Objectshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08065566296202199461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-818215323812390398.post-42190320871511749012012-09-11T15:38:37.209-05:002012-09-11T15:38:37.209-05:00What a thoughtful and thought provoking post. The US had military bases there for training the Iranian military and because the Shah knew the cause of democracy was the course to take, even though he was King. There was a definite middle-class at that time, all of whom were educated in the West. I appreciate your thoughts on this as, to me, it is a very important lesson on cause and effect, you know?Splenderosahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06421992667097947469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-818215323812390398.post-80850330481455071332012-09-11T13:08:15.340-05:002012-09-11T13:08:15.340-05:00Beautiful & thoughtful post about 9-11 Marsha....Beautiful & thoughtful post about 9-11 Marsha. The information about Iran & Carter certainly gives pause for thought. Iran is very scary situation today. I'm with you that if the Shah was still in power, things would be different.
SamSam Hoffer / My Carolina Kitchenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15358601435867848753noreply@blogger.com
