Do We Still Think We Are As Cute & Wonderful as We Used To Be?

of course, this could apply to anyone over 30 couldn't it?

I find myself singing (totally out of tune) to the best songs the world has ever know,
like Sheena Easton's "The Nearness of You" right now as I'm typing this post for you.

It doesn't matter if I can't sing.  Actually, I've never been able to sing well.
But, you know, there is a moment in a life of young women when we all sing at the top of our voices to music with which we identify.  All of us do this.  Worldwide.

and if someone reading this doesn't know every single word of "Dancing Queen" you are
reading the wrong blog.

WE were the dancing queens weren't we?

And, as I sit here at 3:21AM typing this out, it seems imperative to share this with you.

All of us who "were" and who are now "not."
But, we are the same women, we have the same thoughts, we just are not as totally graceful
and perfectly en pointe as we used to be.
But, we are the same women anyway.

I couldn't sing, but God almighty, I could dance.
I could dance all night long.
And I did for 100's of nights, worldwide.

I did it because I loved it, it was a total escape, I was me.
My husband love dancing, although he was completely elegant he never really
managed to be a brilliant dancer...why?
Because he watched his partner.

And, that was so much fun,

Are you remembering?
I'm listening to the music playing on my Splenderose blog,
each tract chosen by me and me alone,
chosen with care and thoughtfulness,
but mostly chosen because I love those tracts so much.

You can dance, you can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh see that girl, watch that scene
Diggin' the dancing queen

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for a place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king

Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance

And when you get the chance

You are the dancing queen
Young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat
From the tambourine, oh yeah

You can dance, you can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh see that girl, watch that scene
Diggin' the dancing queen

You're a teaser, you turn 'em on
Leave 'em burning and then you're gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance

do you still wanna dance?
get your high high heels on and be that lady in red?

I do, but I just don't anymore.
oh, but those memories.....

  1. We were young in the best of times. Marsha!

I may have told you, a year or so ago, when my son Jay was home for a visit, I heard him singing in the shower...familiar tunes...he knew all of the words...and so did I. When he came downstairs for breakfast, I asked, "Jay, your playlist...I didn't realize how much you like 80's music." He replied..."I'm home!" "That's my car seat playlist, Mom!"
    MELTED...MY...HEART!
It immediately got me thinking..."What would my car seat playlist be?"

Chrislyn is a total dancing queen! I danced at Regine's in NYC when I was 7 1/2 months pregnant with her. Donna Summer was HUGE!
"Dim all the lights sweet darling
cause tonight it's all the way
    turn up the old victrola
    gonna dance the night away"

I can still dance...but not "the night away!"

    I LOVE your playlist, Marsha!

  2. Yowzers! Last Sunday.......we went to see Diana Ross at the Santa Barbara Bowl!

Oh dear God! Are you kidding? Songs? Did I know the words? The place (it is kind of small...my favorite thing on earth to hear music); She was completely "on fire"!!

Her costumes......(OMIGOD) sequins rolling and sparkling...she was completely divine in every sense of the word. Her voice was everything it has ever been....She had her daughter start out her preview....with songs she had written herself...and she held her own...

Then the STAR........and that is a STAR if you have ever seen one.....comes out....and knocked everyone's socks off! She never stopped for at least 2 hours....(she disappeared for 2 minutes twice to change into another knockout sequin outfit with feather coat....matching fan.....she never let up.

This woman is a star beyond stardom!

And when she sang......"I will survive"; there was not one person sitting. Everyone was on their feet....arms waving and singing along with there. A peak experience in my life!

    YOWZERS!!!

  3. GUESS WHAT!???

I am way older than you are! I used to love "cotillion" as a "Youngster"; and when I was a college student I had the best job in the world....I "taught cotillion ' all over Los Angeles! Palos Verdes, Hancock Park, Pasadena, Bel air, etc...I was a "demonstrator"! I learned to be a "boy dancing......and taught the boys how to 'lead'!"

And a girl....(taught the girls how to 'follow" "be a feather")

Ballroom dancing....rhumba, cha-cha, waltz....Charleston.....polka! I know and love them all......Dancing has been such a great joy with my husband (the best dancer I have ever met) have had on the dance floor is a huge source of joy! (we do win all the dance contests)!!

Dancing is such fun! And great aerobic exercise!

Love your reference to Donna Summer.....right before we were married we had a new year's eve party....disco music. (dear God)
I wore a sequin tube top; neon satin jeans (thank God no digital photos....this was 1978; !!

Our daughter won the "Halloween contest" for the best costume..wearing my exact outfit........the following October at her private school.....actually....I think all three daughters won the Halloween contests in their grades....wearing my actual clothes! Yes! yes they did! Oh well! The two oldest were"stepdaughters" ; and I think perhaps it helped the "blending" of our family! who knows??

they can weigh in on that!

    Hilarious!

  8. how I love dancing and singing .....as a very young girl (child) I was always dancing and singing with my sister. Later when I was living alone I used the door handle when I heard my fav music in the radio and it still is my dancing partner

  9. Ahhh yes, wonderful memories to behold. Thank you for reminding me to dance more. There's no reason I should not since my husband is a professional musician & I am lucky enough to watch & listen to him & his band every Saturday night. I used to be a really good dance but am a bit out of practice. Thanks for the inspiration & the memories dear one!

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
