Wardrobe Malfunction or Sleek & Sophisticated

the sleekness, sophistication, and always right of white

As I've seen the recent economic cycle evolve into what appears to be
a long-term instability, it makes it more important than ever to
buy our apparel correctly with plans to wear for a longer term.

Being in retail fashion most of my life I've seen trends come & go.

This current one which reprises decades-ago prints, geometrics,
Pucci-esque-ness, polka dots, etc., while looking "new" or
snappy is not going to be around long.

And, many of us would never wear it anyway.

Conclusion:  Don't buy it unless money is no object in your life.

What is right for now...& I mean Spring/Summer...is neutrals with WHITE.

White with Gray

various separates blending, any piece can be worn with other items

Donna Karan White with Gray, Spring 2010

BCBG, Spring 2010

Calvin Klein Spring 2010

these 2 little dresses could be worn so many different
ways and take you everywhere and anywhere.

multiple pieces to mix & match with
 things you already own.

the classic-ness of a good white shirt
& a pair of pants you can wear forever
like a Bernard Zins, for example

White & Natural, Straw, Pales

Luca Luca, Spring 2010
the cuteness & freshness of the print, but it's mostly about WHITE

also Luca Luca
this could've been in the 60's, but it looks so right now

The ability to trend forward has always been one of my
strengths in fashion, as well as knowing the difference in being
current & off-the-rack to
being elegant & refined in your styling.

White & Black

One of the most famous of all the best dressed women in the world,
Babe Paley,
ONLY wore
black & white.

White & Natural Straw colors, gold metallic accessories

White & Grays of any color, silver metallic accessories

Or add color with miles of colored tropical jewelry
or silver & gold chains.

In fact, mix gold & silver together to make it completely current.

& these adorable precious so Chanel-like stripes

Notice how the jacket is slightly cream, banded with pure white...
so various shades of pearly tones make this current...
with many different shades of jewelry...
I love the multi shades of one color, so much newer
& chic than the exact shade head-to-toe, which looks "old" now.
It is so very simple to always look polished.
After our 20's our goal should be to appear polished, not cute.

Polished.

That is what we should strive for everyday.

I just found this wonderful, huge straw & braided white leather
handbag.   Kind of like this Dolce & Gabbana one

Already own all the shoes for this, sandals, wedges in both
white and beige. Pop on some white slacks, a perfect white T, little belt,

tons of jewelry, whatever, and I'm good to go almost anywhere.
 I like that.

Know what I mean?

Please tell me what will be the basics
for your Spring/Summer wardrobe this year?

Really, I would love to know.

?

as an excellent example of this go over to see

where you will see delightful little handbags just popping with color

  3. Love the Luca Luca outfits very soft and feminine -- some look like remakes from older designs -- I spy an Annie Hall and some stripes from Paris,,,the open toe shoes look like the ones my mother wore in the 50's & 60"s mostly classic cuts --stylish for sure, love the grays the black and whites and tans,, I just not a fan of Calvin Klein -- but like all the rest. Not the first batch you shown with dots and all

As a result, I am going to add something to my wardrobe- not sure what yet- that will work with the white linen pieces in my spring/summer wardrobe.

    I will be back-

  6. Marsha, I'm with you. I have never been one to look trendy, I would like to think of myself as a classic dresser (depends on the day as to whether that actually happens or not!). Black is my staple but I love white pants, white jackets, white shirts. Having said that my summer saw alot of colour which is unusual for me! hot pinks and purples..love the handbag...love the inspiration. Lise x

  11. To answer your question... I actually raided the J Crew online store when they had their big sale and bought bunches of white, black and nude tops and bottoms. Who'd have thunk it we were on the same wavelength... AGAIN!

  12. You know what? Maybe we're all on the same wavelength about this. Love what Kristin & Shiny said, what Lily, Laura, Marija, Desde & Joanny said too. Poetry, thank you so much for joining in. Lise, Laura & Raquel xxxx's to you all.

  13. I'm a classic girl, always have been, always will be. I love white shirts and well fitting pants. Beautiful jewelry and red lips (I'm in my 50's and I know I shouldn't, but this is my fashion sinful pleasure). Also love clasic big bags and sandles- no more heals- they now make my feet hurt (sob)!
It always makes me wonder- why beautiful young girls wear things that hide their figure, reveal too much of them, or are just plain hideous! I have always told my daughter- you will never look more gorgeous than you are now (between 17-40)- wear things that compliment that natural beauty. Don't be a hanger for clothes- wear the clothes don't let them wear you.

Now I definitely want to be polished! This spring and summer's wardrobe is up for grabs. I really have not shopped yet. I am in a very big transition. Getting rid of everything that I don't use. That includes clothes. It will be fun to see what will strike my fancy. Thanks to this great post, I'll be looking for white and neutrals- I love that look!
See how inspiring you are? Who knew I had so much to say prompted by your beautiful blog!

  14. I agree with so much of what you said here! Babe Paley is such a style icon for me! Today, it may seem cliche, but I love the way Jennifer Anniston dresses. She always goes for the simple, clean classics. Think Calvin Klein, either on or off the runway, to me she always looks so pulled together and elegant. I think this is because she avoids the trends and anything too over the top. I really enjoyed this...thanks again, so much!

  15. I wore all white yesterday and it felt like Spring for the first time! While I was in Round Top /Marburger, almost EVERY tent/booth had all white decor, or greige, beige, grey, white, etc...so when I saw booths that had colorful suzani's and prints it was SUCH a welcome relief!! I have been a fan of Diane Von Furstenberg since the 1970's and own a few of her original (now vintage) dresses as well as a lot of her recent ones. I love how she uses colours, prints, and patterns that root itself in the past. So i don't think that those are trendy in my opinion.
But I also like white for year round, and not just winter white, WHite White!

  16. What a great post! I so agree with you. Classic, clean, you can never go wrong with white. It's timeless. Love that Donna Karan dress. And nothing beats a well tailored white shirt. Perfection!

  17. Summer.. a memory here in Sydney as Autumn has truly arrived.
Temperatures are dropping and I find myself layering up. Lovely long scarves draped over short sleeve dresses..

Someone wrote that Sydney girls do Autumn so well (let me haste to say that I am Swedish so I am not bragging about myself here..) - they wear Autumn tops with bare caramel coloured legs. A killer combo that is very present here in the land of Oz.

    xx Charlotta

P.s. White is my staple too.. with a nice all-over tan (not too dark), wonderful jewelery, perfect nails (top & toe) and fabulous hair.

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
