Outdoors...

reclaimed barn doors

wonderful wicker

luxe porch, zebra-print throw rug

pop of red, just makes me happy

my daughter's house outside Austin, Texas has a
little room off the kitchen, which is not air conditioned, completely
windowed with floor-to-ceiling French windows...
we've put 2 love seats out there (she doesn't like them
anymore, but they're too good for the junk pile; bright floral prints)
added some very old tables, antiqued, and filled with flowering plants.

The useless room is now useful and totally delightful.

I can sit there with ceiling fan running, with perfect light,
and make jewelry for hours.
The dogs like it too.

She is just beginning her gardening adventures, has Roma tomatoes
growing tall, little chile peppers (hot hot hot), lots of containers of
blooming flowers, an old reclaimed wheelbarrow - found somewhere
for $4 - which is now spilling over with purple petunias and white begonias.

Hydrangeas are planted along the shady side of the house,
and the big-leafed Mandevilla is climbing skyward and blooming profusely.

We are happy.  We are peaceful.

  5. I love the reclaimed barn doors! They are awesome! Sounds like you made the room outside your daughter's kitchen a nice retreat. It sounds like what we call down here a Florida room or a sleeping porch. I had a room like that at my old house and I turned it into a breakfast room.

  6. Marsha all of this sounds so delightful!
I love the idea of you sitting in your daughter's sun room (Australian term) making jewelry. How peaceful..

The inspiration pictures are lovely. I adore the idea of an outdoor fire place and also of a swing sofa/seat. Is there anything better!?!

    Big hugs

  8. Forgot to say how lovely all the photos are. Sounds like the room at your daughter's house in Austin is just perfect.

P.S. Those hydrangeas are gorgeous. I too am beginning my gardening adventures. First year... I have 3 hydrangea plants I am trying to bring back from a bloomless existence. They are such pretty flowers. I adore them!

  9. What a delightful collection of outdoor rooms Marsha. I love sitting on my porch. A house isn't a home without a porch.

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
