Hello, my friends !
as you know, I've made a committment to myself to focus on things important to me this year.
not to be at the beck and call of what is important to others.
for me this is difficult as I am a natural-born giver.
part of this committment means losing weight,
weight which has just crept up on me, almost overnight.
I know, you know.
I subscribe to a newsletter from a physician who discusses weight loss,
and yesterday's email contained this very important article.
the absolute, without-a-doubt, proven results of the vital necessity of
DRINING LOTS OF WATER.
& I'll admit right here that I have never consumed enough water,
I actually don't like drinking it alone, you know?
after reading and processing the below appended article I have vowed to follow this advice,
many, many, many years too late,
but, hey, I'm committed now.
article below can be found here
if you go to the site you will find a Q&A about this subject
which is very interesting
The Most Inexpensive Weight Loss Ingredient Known to Man
A recent study performed by Brenda Davey, Ph.D., of Virginia Tech University finally demonstrated what many people have been saying for years…
There is a virtually free ingredient that can accelerate fat loss.
And surprisingly, the benefit far exceeded expectations.
In a randomized, controlled intervention trial, 48 adults were divided into two groups. One group consumed two units of this ingredient prior to their meals. The other did not.
All of the subjects ate a low calorie diet during the study.
Over the course of 12 weeks, the group that consumed this ingredient lost 44% more weight than the group that did not.1
Want to Know What This “Magic Ingredient” Is?
I bet you do!
The answer is… WATER… Pure H2O!!!
Just two cups of water before every meal increased weight loss dramatically.
How is that for a low cost weight loss solution?
Researchers are not sure why the results are so pronounced, but their best guess is that drinking water before meals leads to less calories consumed per meal.
I will admit that I am a bit surprised at how dramatic the results are… but the data is clear and convincing.
One thing to note is that the two groups were both consuming low calorie diets. I doubt you can use this technique and lose any weight by eating unhealthy, high calorie meals… so it is NOT a panacea.
Also, preliminary research indicates that the results are more pronounced in older adults than in people in their teens and early 20’s.
I would say this could be a healthy habit at any age — but if you are a mature adult it appears that drinking water before meals is a very smart addition to your current efforts to stay healthy and slim.
Action Steps and Final Thoughts
1) Keep a 16oz water bottle with you at all times. It makes sense that if you keep water with you, you’re more likely to drink it. On the other hand, if you get hungry and water is not close by, chances are you’ll just start your meal without it and miss this powerful weight loss opportunity.
2) If you go out, ask your waiter for two glasses of water upon arrival. Or if you get take out, order a 16 oz bottle of water with your meal and drink it before you begin eating. Over time, this will become habitual and second nature to you.

now, just one other little thing:
the author of the article about the 5 best places to live in Europe
has chastised me brutally for using her article.
I linked back to her, I gave her credit.
she demanded I remove it and I did.
Dr. Sisskind, I hope you do not feel the same.
& to all my readers, I realize the importance of posting original content,
if one has the time.
I also think most of us like to post things which we believe will be of interest to our readers,
albeit from another source, if that source is recognized.
I have no wish to offend anyone.
I cannot understand somebody getting upset / objecting to you using her article even though you linked back to her and gave her credit. Sorry you had to go through that.
ReplyDeleteWater is so important to drink. I've been on an alkaline water (9.5 pH) kick for a year and i love it!
This is an area about which many, many bloggers are ignorant. This isn't an issue of offense or good will or any of that. It's about intellectual property. We should all bone up. This is a good source to start from: http://socialfresh.com/how-to-use-content-from-other-blogs-without-infringing-on-their-copyright/.

Water... I agree.... and the 2 glasses rule is pure wisdom... Thank you for the timely reminder, Marsha... xv
ReplyDeleteWater, the cure for everything! Thank you for sharing the article!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very helpful reminder. I'm headed to the kitchen now... to fill up that water glass!
ReplyDeleteMarsha, drinKing, not drining -grin!- and you're right...water, enough of it, will keep us healthy. Mom says thee are 2 types of people in the world...givers or takers and everyone falls into one of those categories. Givers can, sometimes, be takers but takers, rarely are givers. Givers are selfless while takers are selfish.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me the intelligent thing for the author to do would be say "thanks" as it gives her more exposure.
Er, what was it about 2 types of people...LOL!
Don't worry, dear Marsha, about the woman who complained your post about the best places to live in Europe. She was not right anyway, she probably never lived in one of these countries! The best health system for example we have here in France! Spain?????? I was rolling my eyes!
ReplyDeleteTo loose weight - well, I'm also not totally agree with the amount of water-suggestion. It depends on the individual person. But it "kills" to some extend the appetit. And a certain amount per day is good.
Best way to loose weight is a healthy natural diet, lots of fresh vegetables, little/few carbohydrates, no "junk food" like Hamburgers or so, not a lot of bread, no sweets, and not a lot of wine. And - gymnastic, every day 15 minutes . And not trying to loose weight to quickly!
Good luck!
Love - karin
Drinking water before you eat is such a great tip!

Well, yikes as far as the blogger who was not gracious enough to accept your apology and allow you to promote her site/blog. Hopefully I never stumble into her unfriendly world, here on the net! Once on the net, always on the net, and everything, sooner or later is free for the taking, even those family photos everyone likes to put on Facebook. Enough on that!
ReplyDeleteWeight loss is not a fun process, but the results are wonderful . . . and keeping it off, again not fun. UGH (I speak from experience) Just know you are not alone in this quest!
Hi Marsha, Love your blog. I am a big water drinker, always have been - since childhood. I keep a really pretty water bottle filler right on my counter and it is a habit to drink it as I pass by. I am also fortunate to be able to drink water from my well, which is spring fed. If you are not fond of it "plain" try squeezing a bit of lemon or lime in it, or even some juice from an orange. Quite refreshing, especially in summer. One of the reasons for waters and less food intake, is that often you are dehydrated with out realizing it, not hungry, so by reversing that before you begin dinner or a meal, you then are mostly likely to eat to satisfy true hunger, not thirst from dehydration.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry about the blogger who demanded removal. What concerns me more are bloggers who use photos and give no source or credit at all. Certainly what you did would engender gratefulness on my part.
Marsha, thank you for this article. I'm in the same boat as you! Will give it a try! My water glass usually has tea in it (half unsweet/half sweet) I drink it all day long! So I'm going to start with 8oz tea & 8oz water. (Changing the sugar to MIO) Hopefully you'll keep us posted on your progress! When you're accountable to someone it seems to work better. Just like exercise...it's easier & more fun with a friend! Good Luck! On another note~ I absolutely love your music selections! I usually leave your sight open to hear the wonderful melodies as I check my email or pay my bills! Thank you! Peggy

ReplyDeleteI've never been a water drinker. I can pour myself a glass and it can take all day to drink it!! I've tried putting lemon or lime in it . . . it just doesn't taste good to me. But the article was another good motivator for me, thank you.

Oh boy do I need to up my water consumption in that case Marsha! Having spent the past few weeks lounging and relaxing, I had noticed my waistline expanding but I'm on the case...right after this cocktail:) x
ReplyDeleteToasting you with a nice glass of water right now, Marsha! Great post with wonderful information we all need!
ReplyDeleteWater is indeed the most effective way to lose weight. Also, it cleanses the body and washes away all the toxins that usually can cause different illnesses. So drinking a fair amount of water everyday is a must. And it’s good to know that you are one of those people who commit themselves to keeping track of their water intake everyday.
