Grilling - My Fav Labor Day Dishes - Easy & Delicious

Fresh heads of romaine lettuce are split down the middle,
 grilled until charred and smoky,
and then topped with blue cheese and bacon for this satisfying salad.
YUMMY
SERVES 4–6

INGREDIENTS

6 strips bacon
2 tbsp. olive oil
2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
5 heads romaine lettuce, halved lengthwise, rinsed and dried
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
4 oz. blue cheese, crumbled

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Heat bacon in a 12" skillet over medium heat, and cook, turning once, until crisp and fat is rendered, about 10 minutes. Transfer bacon to a plate, reserving 2 tbsp. drippings, and let cool; crumble and set aside. Transfer reserved drippings to a bowl, and add oil, vinegar, and Worcestershire; whisk until smooth, and set dressing aside.

2. Build a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill, or heat a gas grill to medium-high. (Alternatively, heat a cast-iron grill pan over medium-high heat.) Working in batches, if necessary, place romaine halves cut-side down on grill, and cook, turning once, until charred and slightly wilted, about 4 minutes.

3. Transfer lettuce cut-side up to a serving platter, and season with salt and pepper; drizzle with dressing, and sprinkle with reserved bacon and blue cheese.

&
Grilled Sweet Potatoes

begin them in the microwave or oven, whole & with skins on.
makes it easier to grill when they are slightly done already,
& keeping the skins on will hold them together as you cut into wedges.

use orange, brown sugar butter as a topping.
the curry ketchup is really too difficult to make unless you have a half day to stir it all up,
the orange butter is also better.

Grilled Peaches & Ice Cream

talk about easy...any pitted fruit of your choice popped on the grill, pit side down,
for just a few minutes will produce a smokey taste which is divine.

I went shopping today for a couple of hours, purely as a stress reliever.
Fall clothes galore beckoned me as we were sweltering in 90+ degree heat.

that's always the way it is in Houston when we 1st see Fall apparel.
however, there was a huge blanket poncho/ruana in black & white that actually
reached out and grabbed me.  I can wear this everywhere, even on top of a coat if it's really cold,
like when people from Texas travel to other places where normal weather happens.
black turtleneck, white turtleneck, red turtleneck, leather pants, booties...
I've got all of that...it became outfit heaven right then.

I'm seeing myself flouncing around with that blanket poncho/ruana thrown around me,
it hides all the bad stuff, and only the good stuff shows,
& if one has a great bag & possibly some good jewelry
(& I think I know where to find all that!)
voila, fashion excellence without spending much at all.

I'm happy.

try that grilled romaine, it's wonderful !!!

  6. Marsha all your recipes sound so yummy - I'm going to make all three of them. Thanks for sharing. My friend grills peaches sprinkled with lavender and that adds an enhanced favor. Oh how perfect your scoop of ice cream rests on the peach! Perfect with your accent of mint, hey can you tell I'm hungry?

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
