LESSONS FROM OUR PAST

Image result for PHOTO teddy roosevelt

a quote from one of the United States of America's
favorite Presidents,
Theodore Roosevelt

"we have room but for ONE flag...
the American flag.

we have room but for ONE language here,
& that is the English language,

& we have room but for ONE sole loyalty,
& that is a loyalty to the American people."

as I'm watching the political race take a nose-dive into the ditch,
it's almost impossible to believe this could be happening to us, the American people.

I, myself, am a multi-generational American.

my heritage is both from Ireland and from Italy.
& then it's just plain American.

of course, when my ancestors arrived on the shore there was plenty of room in terms of land,
and room for their hard work.

as we will all remember from our history books,
they were not completely welcomed with open arms at that time.

but they settled in and they blended into the fabric of our society,
and now we are all one.

today is a very different point in time.
we have terrorists

(how did this happen you ask?
well Jimmy Carter let the Shah of Iran fall, a ruler who was friendly with the West,
and one who could have kept a lid on all this had he been allowed to continue to reign).

I live in Houston, Texas so I see the effect of the giant migration from across the border.

heck, we even have a district in the city called "THE MAHATMA GANDHI DISTRICT"

we're welcoming.

however, now we're overwhelmed.  you all know how much it costs for the citizens of this country to support all these people & their children.

our public schools print English on one side, Spanish on the other.

their children get FREE HEALTH CARE,
my children did not, nor do my grandchildren

being tired of all the election broo=ha=ha,
the main thing I think about now is
"HOW CAN WE CONTINUE THIS WAY?"

according to NBC online, the remittances sent back to Mexico from their people working in the USA is
$24.8 BILLION

it exceeded their oil revenue!
imagine?

so, this amount of $$ is leaving the USA, not being spent here or invested here.
this is HUGE.
& if a wall is built it will be built from the TAXES imposed on the remittances.
that's the way Mexico will pay for it.

I'm not touting one candidate over the other, as for the 1st time in my life I'm seeing people actually become angry over the election.

For me, I hope that we can stem the tide of the global migration to our  country because we
won't even look like ourselves anymore.

please please please don't call me names.
I'm a good woman, a nice woman, not rude to anyone, ever.

I've lived and/or travelled all over the world.
Heck, I can't move to Mexico without proving I can support myself & don't need anything from their government.
Imagine?  We have a hard time MOVING to Mexico or any other country in the world,
but people just walk into ours and take over.

Please think carefully when you vote.

going the way we are, soon there will be more of them than us.
is this what we want?

I don't think so.

& anyone in politics who wants "open borders" is only trying to get votes for their party.

ladies, this is my position, this is my blog, and most of the time I think pretty well.

that quarterback kneeling when the National Anthem is being played,
or the citizens of other countries waving flags from their home country
just seems BAD.

    1. Shari, it's not courage...it is just the TRUTH. It surrounds all of us, and if we don't stand up for change our country will be diminished. We are a beacon to the world, however, once WE are no longer the majority what will happen? I shudder to think. I lived in the Middle East. I've travelled everywhere. I understand. The people who don't understand are SHEEP. And, the sheep can be led over a cliff. I pray we don't get to that point. Every single person I have spoken to in Houston feels the same way, except for one woman who is from another country! And, their being allowed to vote because some ACLU people have decreed that IF they sign an affidavit they can vote! Why? I have to prove who I am every time I go to the polls.
But, maybe us Texans just think differently !! Cheers to you for commenting.

    2. So, I am curious. Who is the "WE" who will no longer be the majority?

And how did we get the concept, "no borders; no country". We have been to Europe over the last 40+ years. There are no borders between Portugal and Spain any more. It's actually like traveling from Ohio to Pennyslvania. Yet there is NO DOUBT you are in a different country when you make that trip. Two countries, no border. Just like France and Germany, Italy and France, you name it. So, not so sure that if you have no borders, you do not have a country.

  3. Thank you for writing those strong words. I agree with every word you wrote. It is horrible what is happening to our state, our country and us. There is only one way of stopping this and even if you don't like the candidate, one person will stop it and the other will encourage it. I know who I am voting for.....

    1. Audrey, so wonderful to hear from you !!!
I am praying, on my knees, in my car, walking along in the grocery store. I'm praying that our fellow citizens will heed to need to turn the tide. Beautifully stated !!

  5. I pray that America makes the right choice, it may not be seen as politically correct but it must be right for America. I have watched my country sinking over the past few years under the weight of global migration. We have people arriving with no regard for our way of life or our laws, we have a health and benefit system under increasing strain and the EU informing us that we must accept these people regardless. Yes I am a very cranky Brit and yes I voted for Brexit. I pray that the UK regains control of its borders and shows strength in the hard times ahead of us. I pray that America stands together now before it is too late.

  6. They have to put a lid on it now. My Grandmother spoke Gaelic
and had no govt. help. She learned English and worked.
Why do they let sick people in. They have to get their own ins. just like us.
We should not change our language. They have to change not us.
As far as Muslims, fine. NO BURKA"S PLEASE The Veil is fine and a pretty long dress
but covering your face (mask) it's not for religious reasons it's to intimate.

    1. When I was growing up my father used to encourage my 2 younger brothers, me & my mother to discuss civic affairs. Sometimes he would play the devil's advocate, therefore, forcing us into arguing our position, or changing our minds. I actually listen & learn as much as I can to this day. Maybe that's why I'm invited to dinner parties as the hostesses know I can make conversation about anything without offending anyone. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind (I wish I could !!), I'm just putting my opinion out there for all of you to read. Thank you for visiting, and for making this sweet point. xx's

  9. As an Australian watching from afar, what you write makes sense to me Marsha.
After all, we do not invite just anyone into our homes, so as to protect our family.
The same goes for a country.
    Love the American people.
    so generous
some of the world is jealous of you because you are so amazing!.

  10. Hello Marsha!

I could not agree with you more. I am so very sorry for all of these refugee's but I think the better plan is to help them live safely in their own country. Most of these people do not want to come to America, they want to be with their families and in their own way of life.

The ones that do want to come here must acclimate to our way of life, we should not have to change our way of life. Frankly if you are a person that lives by sharia law then maybe our country is not for you because our two styles of life are night and day apart from one another.

Anyway, thanks for being honest and sharing your thoughts. It is rare to see someone stand by their convictions because in the age of social media people who disagree with you get a little crazy.

    Have a great weekend.

  11. Indeed sad and scary times for the USA and I do not care for either politician - is this the best we have to choose from? Thank you for sharing your opinion.
Love your blog ( and style)!!!!

  12. Hello Marsha, thank you for reposting, I am not sure how I missed it the first time before our national presidential election. I certainly would have replied in total agreement with your sentiments and ideology. I am a child of the 50's and 60's. It was a very bucolic time to grow up. The Eisenhower years, hula hoops, transistor radios, Elvis, The Beatles,
drive in movies, carhops but most of all, no terrorism on our shores. We lost our naiveté over the years, "The Bay of Pigs", "duck and cover" during the Cold War, fighting against Communism in Viet Nam (personally losing many beautiful young men I grew up with and dated), and the biggest wake up call....9/11/01. I too am a multi generation American, with Scottish, English, French, German and Irish heritage. I am a true American Mutt and proud of it. My ancestors came here with nothing, but they came here with permission and followed protocol to citizenship!!! They adopted the American way and were thrilled and happy to be able to. They started businesses and contributed to their communities, grew their families and voted with the knowledge it is an American right to choose it's leaders. I will be forever thankful I was born here and welcome all others who come here with permission and follow protocol to citizenship.

  14. Marsha I agree 💯 percent. I live in Seattle where our mayor said Seattle will be a sanctuary city so all illegals are welcome
That means we lose close to $100 M in federal funding so we locals pick up even more taxes
We're considering moving to AZ or TX
We loved living in both states
    Thanks for your comments today
