THE Look for Right Now !!

Dries Von Noten
Designer

was born in Antwerp in 1958
his family was in the apparel business, and after attending
Jesuit schooling and graduation from college,
he decided he was more interested in designing than selling
fine apparel.

When I was at Sak's 5th Avenue the store carried Dries, clothing which
you can mix & match with almost anything.  He makes only 3 sizes, the fitting
is supposed to be loose and look almost "unconstructed."
This is his genuis.

Today, I'm showing you one outfit right off the runway.
Something like this (& these style elements can be purchased at any
retail store in many different price points - this is an idea of a look which
would work for almost any shape or size woman or age.

the length of the pant is perfect, I prefer uncuffed hemlines (for me they are
more slimming I think), the shoe can be a sandal, a flat, a straw wedge...
his entire show featured this shoe, which is a platform pump.

white tee or silk shirt

this jacket is the right shape, note how simple it is...no collar, just clean lines

& then the necklace
the drop-dead necklace

style.com said:
"The incredible necklaces—
rich-looking pearl chokers dangling geometric pendants
set with large semi-precious stones and crystal—
made gorgeous viewing. "

close-up of the jacket
so we can see & appreciate the quality of Dries's work
pearls, Swarovski crystals & gold beads

this jacket looks smashing shown like this, doesn't it?

for me, & I'm a bit "mature" I'm afraid, the pairing of
these materials is unusual.
for our daughters, it's what's happening now
in fashion.

&, once again, all these pieces can be worn with many other
things you already own.  for example, if you have a little beaded
jacket which is similar you might try pairing it as we're shown today.

I love this !!  It's just so much fun finding new happy clothes.

The Necklace?

Well, for me this is a piece of cake.  In my vast inventory
of jewelry supplies, I have a huge number of gorgeous
pendants, many unused strings of pearls straight
from my wholesalers...
all of which have been waiting for me to call on them
to come & be created.
I have always loved "big" jewelry,
but from time-to-time we have to put it away.
Isn't it wonderful, ladies, now we can bring all this back
and WEAR it morning to night !!!

My daughter is a spa developer, currently in Orlando at the new
Hilton; I went to visit her new facility last week, and her
comment to me last night was:   mom, all the girls say
"you can tell she's a Texas woman...so put together."
I loved that too.

Flowers in water tomorrow.

  1. I really like this look. I don't know why, but the older I get the less I like to clothes shop. It seems I can never find anything I like. I really like this, thanks for the heads up.

  3. Love that look and the color combo. As a more "mature" woman myself, I think I'd swap the heavy beading for one of the cute printed cardis that are in stores now, and a more flattering cut on the tee and cropped pants. (why is it that "slouchy" looks great on twenty-somethings but after 40 it just looks messy?) I've seen pearls mixed with earthy stones all over the place lately and really like it. Thanks for this... it's going right into my inspiration file.

  5. Thank you so much for your lovely comment on my blog!

Isn't funny how one blog leads you to another.....I find sometimes I know just from the blogheader if it is going to be my kind of blog - and I love yours!

Love this post....Dries van Noten is a fabulous designer.

Love the flower images you have used....I have some of the same ones, how funny! And the strangest thing, we once stayed at the Hotel Georges V for a treat....as you can imagine, it was incredible, such a beautiful place.....and I will always remember the flowers....such fabulously stylish arrangements....huge amounts of roses cut short and packed into square glass boxes....and that was just at reception!!! It was AMAZING :)

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
