DETOXIFY....take a long, hot bath...& relax

Detoxify with an Epsom Salt and Apple Cider Vinegar Bath

A hot bath for relaxation and to help you unwind after a long day is wonderful,
but a long soak can help you get rid of toxins in your body as well.
Pores open during a hot bath and tend to release toxins. The benefits of a detox bath include softer skin, pain reduction, decreased stress and overall good health.
An Epsom salt and apple cider vinegar bath is particularly beneficial for detoxing the body and you might already have these products in your home. First, the Epsom salts raise magnesium levels. Many people are deficient in magnesium — an important trace element. A study at the University of Birmingham in the UK recently found that magnesium levels in the blood increase after an Epsom salt bath. Magnesium is an essential nutrient for detoxification, so increased amounts can help cleanse the body from the outside in.
Apple cider is also a known detoxifying agent. In addition, it supports healthy skin. Many people are familiar with the popular use of apple cider vinegar on sunburns; it draws out toxins, aids with pain reduction and encourages healing.
In addition to detoxifying benefits, an Epsom salt and apple cider vinegar bath can help with pain reduction and may help resolve chronic skin issues such as eczema and skin irritation. Detox baths will make you sleepy, so reserve your soak for just before bedtime.
In order to make your very own detox bath, follow these steps:
  1. Run a hot bath, as hot as you find comfortable.
  2. Add the Epsom salt right out of the box, as much as you like,
  3. then pour in a small bottle of apple cider vinegar.
  4. Let it diffuse under the running water.
  5. If you like, add up to ten drops of your favorite essential oil, such as lavender or rose.
  6. Soak for up to a half hour, keeping the water hot by adding more hot water from time to time.
This bath will leave your skin and entire body feeling cleansed and refreshed. A detox bath is a great way to aid a detox regime or merely to relax.

so, seriously, we need to take this bath at least once a week, especially for us older chickadees to keep our skin protected from the ugly signs of aging.
don't we?

  1. Hi Marsha, I have never heard of using a vinegar in a bath. Epsom salts yes, but Apple Cider Vinegar is totally new to me. My children (all but one of them) wrinkle their noses at the smell of vinegar, but I love it, along with our youngest daughter, we both think the smell is divine! I very very rarely get the time to take a long bath, I'm a quick shower person in the morning before the school run. But I am going to find some Epsom Salts (have never managed to do so yet in France so I may have to order online) and buy some Apple Cider Vinegar and try this. Thank you and have a lovely relaxing weekend. Susan x

  4. Thank you Marsha for this one - I loved it. On another topic, I sent you an email about your handbags to see if you had any left. You responded you had a few. If you sent information about what you had and the price, it may have gone to my spam. I am traveling right now but will be back home in LA this week to purchase! Thanks! Barbara

  7. If you don't want to soak in vinegar, you can also drink a glass of water with a spoonful of vinegar in. It actually has a slightly sweet taste.
The acid helps balance your gut ecology, counter excessive sugars, keep you healthy. But be sure to buy organic vinegar, not the pestifided stuff in the big groceries.

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
