Op-Ed by Marsha

warning:  this is my opinion of a subject I've chosen.

while you, my dear readers, may have a different opinion I will be happy to hear it
if it is offered in a sensitive way,
in other words, no ranting/raving, but you wouldn't do that anyway, I know.

choosing the subject has been difficult as there are SO MANY SUBJECTS
which need to be examined

but first, there's a book you must read

Cover art

of course, there are DOGS, because the hero loves dogs and has a dog shelter in his hometown,
but the hero is also a lawyer, and he is pressed into defending someone accused of murder,
and he thinks he's innocent.

the writing is witty, I have out-right laughed in some places, and understand the dynamic
between husband, wife, children and dogs.

please believe me, it is not a waste of time,
in fact it IS VERY GOOD.

next, I've been seeing many older movies on NetFlix or TV,
recording them on DVD so I can watch when I have time,
and I have a few to recommend:

CHEF
total surprise here, very cute, very funny and also heartwarming
some very famous cameo appearances too
it's a family movie

HOME AGAIN
Reese Witherspoon returns to her father's home in LA, a lovely divine home,
after deciding to divorce her husband who lives in NYC.
very cute, Candace Bergman is her mother who makes arrangements
for 3 young wannabe film producers to move into her guest house.
take it from there.

you see, I've had to turn off the News Channels because they are no longer NEWS,
they are OPINIONS.
perhaps FOX is news, but they have opinions also.
I, for one, am able to make my own decisions, and I have my own opinions,
so I'm completely dismayed to see what CNN has become, when I used to watch it all the time.
opinions are not news.
and most of the opinions espoused on CNN are not in agreement with my opinions.

I have no idea where one finds real news today.
News where the facts of the story are told, such as they are, without someone's
opinion of the transpiring news.
I have lots of friends who are only too happy to share their opinions with me,
and for the most part, I trust what they have to say.

I'm worried that maybe our schools are brainwashing our children, educating them in a very liberal
way, and a way which may be contradictory to the way we were educated or brought up,
because the colleges are filled with liberal leaning professors, and unless the student
buys into and then takes tests given by this professor, in order to pass the tests the students
must comply with the professor's thoughts.

so, now, more than ever we have a huge responsibility to our children to make them
aware of your beliefs as a parent, and to make them aware of what they actually face once out of college and try to become employed in the workplace.

so indoctrination of the students into a left-leaning teaching staff is inevitable isn't it?

I cannot even be certain if Texas schools fall into this category because it's been awhile
since my children were in school.
but now I have 5 little grandchildren, they all go to private school now, but who knows
what they might choose in the future for a higher education.

if this what's happening, or is this what's being reported by the "media?"

I really don't know !!

  1. Thank you for sharing your opinion. It is hard these days to even think out loud without recrimination. I have an interesting story. We are in the process of preparing a family members house for sale. It is an overwhelming process. Our plumber is working to resolve some issues and his 14 year old step-son is his assistant in this after regular work hours project. The young man was telling my husband how much he likes our school district but there are issues with the teachers. They are ultra liberal and clearly dislike him because he challenges them. This young man is in all advance placement classes, makes nothing but perfect grades, is a sports star and well as a community involved mentor to those less fortunate. He says his friends are much the same as the teachers and have difficulty thinking for themselves and forming independent opinions. No surprise to me, I have heard from others (adults) that this is happening. I limit my "news" exposure and have for some time. It is important for all of us to remember that the country will be rotted from within. And it is well on its way. Protect the children.

  2. I love your glamour and taste but completely disagree with your political point of view. I wish you would hold yourself back and just refrain from adding your political opinions to your blog. I come for your fun sence of style. Please?

  3. Marsha, I suggest that you get your news from print material such as The Economist, The Wall Street Journal....and, if you wish the Wash Post and the NY Times. These are trusted news sources and do not publish "fake news"....

  4. Marsha,

We are living in a different world. No longer are we allowed to "voice" our own opinion unless it it the same opinion as the person your are speaking with. There is no real news, it is as you say opinions, and frankly on some stations a "field day" as they say with digging up dirt on whomever their target of the day is.

You are allowed your opinion my friend, its your blog,

  5. Marsha thanks for the Netflix and book tips. Our society has become so polarized that I think many of us don't even know how it happened.

  6. I so appreciate everyone who has commented.
This is the only way forward I think.
WE must be able to debate the ideas, otherwise we live in ONE LANE ALL GOING THE SAME WAY.

I could not have possibly learned anything if I had thought I knew everything.

And, I know each one of you understands what I'm saying.

About Socialism, I believe and know that it's been tried and it has FAILED.

    History tells us this.

Unfortunately, history may not be taught any longer, that's all I'm saying.
If we do away with our history or THEIR history by removing monuments, renaming schools, do we change history or do we choose to ignore history.

For me, ignoring history would be a absurd. I have a Master's in Art History, to it's also World History, and I am so happy to have earned it. I can relate to so many things going back 1000's of years that I would never have known about. I earned the right to be an authority in my areas of expertise.

    Don't I ???

  7. I echo he comment above about reading the NYTimes or the Wall Street Journal. The newspapers are very conscientious about separating their "editorial pages" from their new pages. That is less true of CNN, MSNBC and definitely Fox News.

And remember, there is a BIG difference between socialism and social democracy. The latter is what is practiced in most of Europe and if anyone travels there, it is quite evident that there is a strong market economy, filled with privately owned businesses of all sizes. There is, however, a "safety net" of public support and the results speak for themselves: better health, longer lives, more educated population, less stress, etc. I would encourage people to see a country like Denmark, or Switzerland, or France, or Spain, or Czech Republic, or . . .

  8. Thanks so much for posting this, Marsha. (I'm just now trying to catch up with your blog posts.) I am in total agreement with you about the so called "News" - at least on the television. It's no longer news, it's opinions. I have to say that I like to know what's going on in the world. I usually watch PBS, CBS and FOX, just so I can get different perspectives. (I'm probably watching too much news for my own good, but that's another subject.) I should also say that I am a Californian, have been one all of my life, and in my humble opinion, the golden state is no more. It may have reached the point of no return. It has become a state of the very rich and the very poor. The middle classes have been driven out, and when you lose your middle class, you lose your democracy. There is a total lack of common sense in our elected officials.

I do agree with Marnie's recommendation about getting the news from The Economist and the WSJ. They are both highly respected publications. (Thanks for allowing me to vent.)

Please know how much I value your comments. I read every single one and do hope you will take the time to leave your thoughts. I think InstaGram with the Emojis have taken a lot away from blogging, but I love IG too.
